The naked model is sitting on an unmade bed, as though just awakened in her room now bathed in sunlight through the window on the right. The setting perfectly embodies Sickert’s ideal of the “scene of intimate life” thanks to details such as the oval painting hanging over the bed and the mirror and chair on the bed sides.
This drawing is related to the oil on canvas of the same title painted by Sickert around 1913. Another nude study taken in the same interior of the Wellington House Academy is featured in this exhibition [1] .
