Book Launch - Ink, Paper, Chisel, Grain - Paul Coldwell

Emanuel von Baeyer Gallery along with Penguin Books hosts a book signing for Paul Coldwell's Ink, Paper, Chisel, Grain.

'A fascinating account of the hidden history of the humble woodcut' - SUNDAY TIMES

Ink, Paper, Chisel, Grain is a dazzling journey through 500 years of art, ideas and human imagination, told through one of the most enduring and versatile artistic mediums ever created. Printmaker and author Paul Coldwell (b. 1952) details his intimate encounters with the works and makers that transformed 'the humble woodcut' from a practical technology into a vehicle for beauty, revolution, protest and wonder. Part history, part travelogue, part meditation on art and making, Ink, Paper, Chisel, Grain reveals how woodcut has survived every technological revolution thrown at it, celebrating the enduring human impulse to leave a mark.

For this occasion, alongside our current exhibition – Landscapes and Cityscapes – we will display a selection of prints by Paul Coldwell. The signing will be introduced by Rhoda Eitel-Porter, editor of Print Quarterly.
