Emanuel von Baeyer Cabinet presents Leon Steinmetz: Tarot Major Arcana - a new online display.
"This deck approaches the Major Arcana as gestures rather than illustrations. Tarot treated as movement.
Done in sepia with the economy and freedom of the ancient Chinese calligraphers, the images emerge in a single breath.
They are figurative and slightly distorted - bending form just enough to reveal tension, humour, and vulnerability.
Nothing is ornamental; each stroke carries weight.
The black Roman titles and numbers are anchors, representing tradition, structure, permanence.
We can listen to Tarot and see the Archetypes in the moment they arise."

A limited edition of 10 sets of Tarot Major Arcana, illustrated by Leon Steinmetz (b. 1944 in Moscow), and published by Emanuel von Baeyer London. The set will be presented alongside the original drawings on which the deck is based.

To accompany the launch of the edition and our online display, we will be holding a special event celebrating the Tarot. Steinmetz's Tarot set will be joined by a suite of drawings exploring the Major Arcana by illustrator and musician Chloe F. Nelson (b.1988 in Redwood City). Nelson will also perform her music.
