Nicholas C. Williams (b. 1961, Redhill, England) is an English painter whose work delves into the complexities of human behavior, using symbolism and direct observation to convey deep narratives.
His artistic journey began at Richmond College in London, and since then, he has become a notable figure in the contemporary art scene. With numerous solo exhibitions at prestigious venues like the Russell-Cotes Museum and Liverpool Cathedral, his work has been celebrated for its rich emotional depth and technical prowess.
The series of paintings ‘Coterie’ itself revolves around an opaqueness of power, of how small exclusive circles of people make decisions of consequence for us all, with the future of the natural world at the heart of those decisions. The two introspective portraits are concerned with how we navigate this new world on a personal level.
‘Resonance of Compassion’ is a work from an earlier series where the artist was looking at the erosion of compassion and empathy and whether experiencing positive acts of kindness could affect our own actions. Williams chose the placement of a lost glove as a motif for the series as it marks an anonymous small act of kindness.
In addition to this work, we’re also showcasing “What Is It You Pray For, II” and “What Is It You Pray For, III” stand as a reminder of our shared experiences in times of reflection and hope. This piece is one of three concluding portraits from the series, each inviting viewers to pause and connect with their own sense of spirituality and contemplation.
