Growe, Micheal

Born in 1960 in Warburg, Germany, Michael Growe’s work is deeply influenced by the New York School and European Informel movements.

A graduate of the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he studied under Gotthard Graubner and Erwin Heerich, Growe’s art is a vivid fusion of bold color, form, and space.

At the core of his practice is the exploration of the relationship between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. In his Tanz series, Growe draws from the historical theme of the Dance of Death, using striking hues like yellow, green, and violet to bring life to figures that emerge from the dark. His art is more than just color—it’s a layered narrative about the shared humanity that connects us all, encapsulated in his powerful belief: “In death, all are equal.”

From large painted sculptures such as Boogie Boogie to the dynamic Trojaner series, Growe invites viewers into an interactive experience, blurring the line between abstraction and reality. His work challenges us to engage physically and emotionally, offering a portal to a world where perception and imagination meet.

The term “Strom” has various meanings in German, all tied to energy and movement—whether it’s a river, electricity, or the flow of time—and perfectly encapsulates the continuous dynamism of Growe’s art.
