Angela Barrett Exhibitions and Events
Angela Barrett (b. 1955) is widely regarded as one of the most talented and highly respected living British illustrators working today.
In a career that spans four decades she has worked with many of the best-known international publishing houses, such as Penguin Random, Walker Books UK, and Candlewick Press (USA), as well as highly respected private press such as The Folio Society, Hand and Eye and Libanus Press.
Her work is frequently exhibited in both Japan and South Korea, where she has a dedicated following, as well as in the US and the UK. Notable exhibitions include the ground-breaking ‘Magic Pencil’ exhibition at The British Library (2002) and which went on the tour globally (2002-2004).
Accolades include WH Smith Illustration Award (1991), the Nestle Smarties Book Award (1989) as well as being shortlisted for the national Kate Greenaway Award.
She studied at Maidstone College of Art, and then The Royal College of Art and has gone on to illustrate over 40 titles with writers such as Naomi Lewis, Martin Waddell and Josephine Poole.
Working slowly and meticulously to an exacting standard, involving detailed historical research she works in the tradition of great artists such as Edmund Dulac, Arthur Rackham and Sir John Tenniel, with many regarding her work as on a par with these great historical names.
