William Lindley

William Lindley (b.1978 in Reading) is a visual artist with a multifaceted practice - spanning graphic and printed works, object-making, moving image works and installations.

Rooted in drawing, his artistic approach combines traditional techniques with contemporary processes to create works of art responding to place, literature, the natural world, history, music and science. He utilises drawing and intaglio printmaking processes to create works on various materials, exploring the evolution of place and landscape.Printing nature studies from etched plates onto wood instead of paper, for example, closes the ontological gap between the world and its representation: that which is depicted is mediumistically constituted by that which it depicts.

Lindley's wider practice incorporates painting, photography, animation and sound to create films, projections and installations. He has been commissioned to create various public artworks for galleries, concert halls, theatres, museums, universities and historic buildings across England.
