Magda Blasinska

Magda Blasinska is an artist whose work focuses as much on texture as it does giving it meaning. Polish-born and internationally-exhibited, Blasinska draws on her heritage to elevate the humble tools (such as straw) that she paints with, and the earthy palette she works in to create “texture reminiscent of precious objects”, infused with crafted meaning and charged with folk history. Appearing as intricately woven woollen rugs, a product which Poland historically crafted, Blasinska’s subject evokes such a legacy in paint, reminding us of the knots of these rugs and, with it, those who weaved them. 

Blasinska’s painting moves beyond just depicting something for the sake of doing so, and instead uses her fastidious working method to expand and enrich the contextual, historical, and textural meanings behind her works, and their subjects.

Blasinska obtained her MA Painting Degree from the Royal College of Art in 2018 and her BA (Hons) Degree in Drawing and Painting from the Edinburgh College of Art in 2009. She is based in London.
