Bettina Mechtersheimer Exhibitions and Events
Bettina Mechtersheimer (b. 1974 in Munich) weaves surreal worlds from everyday found materials. After training as a wood sculptor and studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1999 to 2005, Mechtersheimer now teaches art at a technical college for design in her hometown. She also creates mesmerizing collages, which she exhibits from time to time.
Her collage work is built entirely from discarded materials—mostly books that are on their way out—where she immerses herself in the process of combining different images to form a new, dreamlike narrative. The result is a visually captivating exploration of themes that are often abstract or mysterious.
Mechtersheimer’s practice is heavily influenced by her admiration for the work of Hannah Höch, as she shares, “To this day, I consistently try to exploit the photo. I use it like color, or like a poet uses words.” This dedication to transforming imagery into something deeply evocative and otherworldly is evident in every piece she creates.
