Portraits. Mid-Seventeenth to Early Twentieth Century

A selection of portraits all drawn from the immediate environment of the artist. Together they represent a range of sitters that an artist would interact with in everyday life: among these are self-portraits, portraits of fellow artists, portraits of the artist's family, portraits of patrons and favourite models. As a group they are unified by an intimacy, familiarity and close observation of human nature that is only shared among those in ones nearest circle.
