Watercolour over pen and pencil, partly heightened in white and gold. Sheet size: 47.2 x 60.5 cm. Signed and dated 1858.
Provenance: Robert Sinclair (Railway engineer around 1860)
This remarkable and detailed work is based on a contemporary poem by Ludwig Uhland. Like his fellow artists Moritz von Schwind and Eugen Napoleon Neureuther, Scheuren adapted subjects from contemporary literature.
The watercolour was a lottery prize of the `Kristiana Kunstforenings´, Oslo, of around 1858-60.
Such monumental drawings are very rare.
