Dandelion

Barbara Regina Dietzsch
1706 – Nuremberg – 1783

Gouache, with golden framing line on vellum paper. Sheet size: 29 x 21 cm.

Dietzsch came from a Nuremberg family of painters and was the most important female flower painter in eighteenth-century Germany.

The Dietzsch family specialized in gouaches of landscapes and representations of flora and fauna.

A very similar composition with a dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is today in the Achenbach Foundation (Johnson, Goldyne, p. 78, cat. no. 31, with ill.).
