This catalogue focuses on sixteenth- to nineteenth-century master drawings and oil sketches from various national schools. Our selection includes a Rudolphine allegorical representation of a young woman surrounded by the four elements in oil and gold dust on paper, mounted on wood; a Christ giving the Benediction by Jacob Matham; and a fine example of a drawing by Joseph Heintz the Elder and Younger; finally, towards the end of our period, a number of Nazarene - or Nazarene-influenced works, such as A Moonlit River Landscape by the German Romantic artist Johan Christian Dahl, and a preparatory study by the British painter George Romney (Study of John Milton).
