Francesco Rosaspina's Drawing School. 1811

Giulio Tomba
1780 - Bologna – 1840

Etching with roulette, after Felice Giani. Sheet size: 46 x 58.5 cm. Nagler XXI, p.184,6.

Very good impression on a full sheet. Very well preserved.

This print was probably commissioned, or later published, by the Nuremberg publisher Johann Friedrich Frauenholz (1758 – Nuremberg – 1822). The last and finished state bears the German title Rosaspina's Zeichenschule and Frauenholzer's address in the lower margin. Nagler mentions a state in pure etching, before the reworking with the burin. Our impression is inscribed, but does not have the German lettering.

Tomba was one of Francesco Rosaspina's pupils and later executed this, his most famous print, after Felice Giani, as a tribute to his teacher.
